A beautiful sunny morning, though the weather was rather changeable and it
clouded up some, with a bit of wind. Not to bad though, and the birds were
rather intersting:

American Bittern 1 on far shore of upper slough
Green-winged Teal 1 male EURASIAN near windmill
Red-tailed Hawk Activity at the odd snag nest
American Kestrel Female in cottonwoods near Pea Patch
Common Snipe 1 below weir
California Gull At least 3 in pristine plumage
Mew Gull First large flock in a while
Tree Swallow 3-6 in upper slough
Violet-green Swallow 1 below weir early
American Robin Conservatively, 500+
Western Meadowlark 6 in East Meadow

Neither Pine Siskin nor Bushtit were in large flocks, but there were many small
flocks of both. Red-winged Blackbird's ratio of males to females is finally
becoming balanced, as more females arrive.

Also, a dog person who birds, Lilah, reported a LONG-EARED OWL in the afternoon
of last Wednesday, 3/7/2001, along the western portion of the boardwalk,
bringing her owl species total at Marymoor to 4, the rat. She's seen both
Long-eared and Great Horned, neither of which I've seen there. The other two
owls on the Marymoor list are Barn and Short-eared.

At the Rowing Club, I was surprised to see a deer in the parking lot.

49 species on the day, on my solo visit.
