Thistle doesn't seem to be the only thing Pine Siskins will feed on in my
yard. For the last two years, I have abandoned thistle seed due to the large
number of Siskin fatalities. Now, they feed in large flocks at my black oil
sunflower feeder and are occasionally seen in the mixed seed. I think they
may also be eating the white millet. The other strange thing is that, while
others have said they find the poor dead souls in and under feeders, mine
have always been found around the perimeter of the house, just inches from
the foundation. And I'm talking maybe 20 or 30 over the last 5 or 6 years.
And in spite of cleaning with bleach, I've buried 3 already this year.
