Message today on the list Calbird, from Joe Morlan:
The following is being forwarded at the request of Peter Pyle of the Point
Reyes Bird Observatory:
On March 15th the Stinson Beach sandplover was briefly captured, measured,
and released unharmed. Almost all measures, along with various ratios and
combinations of measures confirm the bird to be a Greater Sandplover, most
likely of the nominate subspecies. Details will be published soon.
The managers of Seadrift Estates and PRBO would like everyone to know that
starting in April (when the busy spring/summer season begins) restrictions
on access by birders, especially during weekends, will begin to occur. A
complete restriction may be in place by Memorial Weekend. So birders
interested in seeing the sandplover should do it soon. Those who have seen
the bird may also consider limiting the number of repeat visits to lessen
the traffic and potential for sooner restrictions.
