It was quite a birdy day today. When I first went
outside this morning, I heard pheasants and California
quail, song sparrows and wrens singing.
Over my head, the main body of the Violet Green Swallows
were twittering..at last!
Then a female Rufous hummingbird appeared at my feeder,
first one of the season I've seen here in Littlerock.
But the best was...a semi-albinistic Junco, the first
I've ever seen. This bird is hanging around with the
rest of my juncos. I'm sure it's a male, but it's head
is liberally splattered with white. In fact, there's
more white on it's head than black. The back of the head
is totally white, and what black there is seems to be
pretty much in the areas of the eyes and the malar
regions. Lovely, lovely bird.
Plus, a couple weeks ago, I saw the semi-albinistic
Robin on Glacial Heritage. This bird has NO black or
grey on it. It's almost totally brown and white, with a
mere patch of red on one portion of it's breast.
