Hi,
Swan hunting has been proposed for the state of Oregon. HB3571

Please visit the following web site
http://www.leg.state.or.us/01reg/measures/hb3500.dir/hb3571.intro.html
and read the bill submitted to the Oregon legislature to require ODFW to
conduct generic swan hunting in Oregon. The focus for the hunt is in the
Willamette Valley and would include trumpeter and tundra swans. The reason
first given TTSS was that farmers are having crop depredation from swans ---
so they and others want a swan hunt (there are other more acceptable,
non-lethal ways of dealing with this problem such as hazing, etc. that have
not been tried).

Read the following passages, additions to the existing law:
Section 1 #5 REQUIRES ODFW to establish swan season
Section 2 #1 (r) and (s) and # 11 swan tags for hunting
Section 3 #1 (r) and (s) and # 11 swan tags for hunting

Current status of bill: First reading 3/8 Referred to Speaker's desk.

TTSS just got word of this legislation last night. We have not
officially responded to the issue. I can tell you that the recent events in
the Rocky Mountain Population (where there is presently a generic swan
hunt) have not gone well for the birds. In fact, the USFWS now is redoing
its Environmental Assessment on that hunt and it will be out in April (Stay
tuned for this when it comes out).

Now is the time to speak out.
