This morning, Monday, I saw the first of the season Rufous Hummingbird, a
male, at my feeders. My first sighting last year was March 18th. I live
east of Woodinville.

As Carol Schultz reported, birding was good in eastern Washington on
Saturday. Mike West lead a trip for East Lake Washington Audubon. 71
species were seen but we didn't go to the Beverly area. Hidden Valley was
excellent for small birds. Besides both specie of bluebird, there was a
flock of Red Crossbills that fed in the snow patches and conifer trees. We
also saw Brown Creeper, White-breasted Nuthatch, Cassin's Finch, Chipping
Sparrow, and Say's Phoebe there. Evening Grosbeaks were feeding near the Cle
Elum pond. We had great views of 7 Rough-legged Hawks along our route. We
dipped on the dipper, even though on Thursday's pre-trip we saw a pair
building a new nest under the Teanaway bridge. Sage Sparrows were heard and
seen near milepost 21.3 on the Vantage Highway. Along Wanapum Rd. we
saw/heard Canyon Wren and Rock Wren. Also, there's a Great Horned Owl
sitting on a nest that's in a long stand of Cottonwood trees seen from
Manastash Rd.
