Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday March 22. If you have anything to add call Harry
Nehls at 503-233-3976.

A probable adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL is now being seen near the dam
at Fern Ridge Reservoir. It tends to stay well out in the lake, too far
for detailed observations.

The SUMMER TANAGER is still being seen in Cedar Mill west of Portland.
The Yaquina Bay YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen again March 16. The TUFTED
DUCK continues to be seen at the Astoria Sewage Ponds. It was last
reported March 20. The WHOOPER SWAN is still at Lower Klamath NWR.

Migrating shorebirds began arriving during the week as did migrant
WESTERN and MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS east of the Cascades. Many OSPREY are now
back at their nesting sites and locally nesting VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS are
now checking out nest boxes.

A BARN SWALLOW was at the North Spit of Coos Bay and two ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS were at Coquille March 20. Six CLIFF SWALLOWS were at Fern Ridge
Reservoir March 19.

Despite some sparrow migrations the sparrow flock containing the HARRIS'S
and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS are still at Millicoma Marsh on Coos Bay. On
March 13 a CHIPPING SPARROW joined the flock. On March 19, 8 LONG-TAILED
DUCKS were in the triangle at the South Jetty of the Umpqua River.

A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was reported March 18 at the Fernhill Wetlands in
Forest Grove. Three SANDHILL CRANES were at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro
that day. A BONAPARTE'S GULL was at Ankeny NWR also on March 18.

A CLARK'S GREBE and a BRANT were at Fern Ridge Reservoir March 19. Up to
15 GREATER SCAUP are now on Kirk Pond near the dam.

A SNOWY OWL was reported March 14 at the Madras Airport but did not
remain.

Thats it for this week.
