Our last planning meeting before the festival was last night, and I was
impressed by how many tours have already sold out. We may be adding a bus
or two for crane viewing if things fill up completely, but may have reached
capacity on other guided tours. Even without getting on a tour, there is
lots to do and see. Tuesday morning I led a field trip for the WA TWS
meetings held in Moses Lake, and we had lots of swans, most of the ducks
including a few Cinnamon Teal and two Eurasian Wigeon, shrikes, curlews,
lots of cranes, an Am. Tree Sparrow that had to hit the deck when a
Sharp-shinned Hawk grabbed for it, and both Golden and Bald Eagles. We did
not see the White-fronted Geese from the day before, but they are probably
still around. There were lots more birds to see, but we had to get back.

For those of you that haven't gotten registration forms in, you can
register at the door and take advantage of all the speakers and activities
on Saturday (both Friday trips are full), and there is still a little space
on one or two Sunday morning tours. But next year don't procrastinate or
you'll miss out again on some of the better field trips.

Just a reminder that this weekend is the Sandhill Crane Festival in
Othello,
WA. We have heard great things about the festival and know that the birding
can be fantastic this time of year. Lots of cranes, waterfowl, and earlier
spring breeders and migrants (also a few Burrowing Owls around if you know
where to look). Here is their web site
http://www.othello-wa.com/sandhillcrane.htm (the web site has really
clerver
animated cursor object - check it out).

Charles.
