Germaine, I have avoided most of the Oldsquaw letters, and just opened yours by chance; so glad I did. I started a thread about the need to change it last spring, and some nearly put my head on the chopping block, but eventually many were convinced of the importance of changing it for social correctness more than anything. I am amazed how the American Indian is treated in this state compared to the Mid West; where a lot more respect seems to prevail than a careless attitude. Our Tacoma Symphony Chorus is doing a concert 'Song of the Salish Chief' at the end of April, and I do believe that if a few who feel this a trivial matter could come and listen and really asorb fully the context; they would have a deeper understanding of what it is truly all about. I cried the first time I heard it performed, and am honored to be doing it now.......
