Tweets,

yesterday at Flora and Fauna I came across a new (to me) European
field guide, from the Princeton series. Doing a brief comparison of
birds I'm familiar with between the Princeton guide and the Collins
pocket guide, I thought the Princeton guide did a little better job
on colors; many of the reds in the Collins guide look a bit too
intense for my taste. The Princeton guide also illustrates more
plumages, and has more in-flight illustrations as well.

There wasn't a copy of the newer Collins Bird Guide to compare to,
but I remember that book as being significantly larger and more
awkwarkly shaped than the Collins pocket guide; the Princeton guide
was only a little larger than the Collins Pocket guide. Tentatively
planning a trip to Europe in the fall (if my sister ever gets around
to setting a wedding date), I'm interested to hear any comments on
European field guides. Thanks,
