Charles and Tweets -

I live on Hollywood Hill and walk a fair bit up here. I have not seen,
or heard a rail here, although there are some locations which stay quite
moist most all year. I have not had the opportunity to explore the area
you describe thoroughly so can' t speak to marshy areas very close. But
the trail is not that far from the Sammamish River which does have some
possible habitat along it, and rails do move overland. I suspect that
you found a bird which had the misfortune to succumb in an atypical
location.

Did you keep the bird? If you did you might note the details of when and
where it was found, wrap it in soft paper and keep it in your freezer
until you can pass it on to the Slater Museum (Dennis Paulson at Univ.
of Puget Sound) or the Burke at U.W.
