Regarding car break-ins while birding, there may be reason to be
particularly cautious while in British Columbia. I just heard of another
birder who's car was broken into at Iona, and on a trip to Vancouver this
month, the proprietors of the B&B where we stayed warned us several times
about car break-ins. They described the car break-in problem up there as
"huge" and advised us "Don't leave ANYTHING in your car when you park, not
even a jacket". While parked in Vancouver, we cleaned the car out, and even
left the glove box open so that someone could see it was empty. We had not
problems.
