Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday March 29. If you have anything to add call Herry

An offshore boat trip out of Newport March 24 found an imm. SHORT-TAILED
ALBATROSS at Perpetua Bank 32 miles west of Yachats. A LAYSAN ALBATROSS,
over 100 BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, a LEACH'S STORM-PETREL, FULMARS,
PINK-FOOTED, SOOTY, and SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS were also seen. A
follow-up trip is scheduled for April 15.

An almost white GYRFALCON was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
March 24. It did not remain. The first CASPIAN TERNS were seen there that
day.

A SNOWY OWL was seen March 27 on the deflation plain near the South Jetty
of the Siuslaw River. It did not remain.

The SUMMER TANAGER continues to be seen at Cedar Mill west of Portland. A
male TUFTED DUCK was found March 23 on Hatfield Lake near Bend. It has
remained. The male TUFTED DUCK at the Astoria Sewage Ponds continue to be
seen. On March 26 a female TUFTED DUCK was seen with it.

COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, VESPER SPARROWS, and BARN,
CLIFF, and ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS moved into Oregon during the week, along
with a TURKEY VULTURE movement. On March 27 a PURPLE MARTIN was at
Tenmile Lake in Coos County. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was with two PALM
WARBLERS at the docks in Florence March 24. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was at
Boiler Bay March 28.

A CASSIN'S VIREO was seen in the Coast Range March 26 at the Summit Rest
Area along Highway 26.

The partial albino BALD EAGLE that has wintered in the Sauvie Island area
for several years was highly conspicuous on the Island over the week-end.

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove
March 24. The male TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD there is now on territory and is
displaying.

On March 24 a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was at Detroit in the Cascades east of
Salem. Two HERMIT WARBLERS were at Spencer Butte in Eugene March 26. The
two WHITE PELICANS are still at Fern Ridge Reservoir. The larger bird now
has a large knob on its bill.

A male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD was at Agate Lake near Medford March 21. On
March 24 a BLACK-THROATED SPARROW visited an Ashland feeder.

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was near Paulina March 27, and a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW was at Hatfield Lake the next day. BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were
reported March 17 from two different places near Madras.
