Greetings,

Field trip report for 29 March 2001, Monroe to Snohomish, Snohomish County.

Seen at Lake Tye Park and to the west:

1 Say's Phoebe...on fence posts in the pastures just west of baseball field #1
200+ Tree Swallows
40 Violet-green Swallows
1 Barn Swallow
10 Bald Eagles
1 Merlin
1 American Kestrel
1 Rough-legged Hawk
1 Peregrine Falcon

Lake Tye Park is located on the west edge of Monroe along Fryelands Blvd. Fryelands Blvd. runs between US 2 and the Old Snohomish-Monroe Rd. This park provides excellant views of the very large pastureland to the west as well as birding around Lake Tye. The habitats here are very open and are used frequently by hawks and eagles. This can be a very birdy site. Who knows what the spring migration might bring! Western Kingbirds here last year. The pastureland is private but can easily be scoped from a dirt road that runs along the western edge of the park.
****************************
A flock of 5 Greater White-fronted Geese in a field with Canada Geese and swans
along the Old Snohomish-Monroe Rd, in a field at 1.8 miles. The 1 milepost is not far southeast of the Pilchuk River. This field is where the gyrfalcons have been seen recently.
****************************
Seen at the Snohomish Sewage Ponds:
Great Blue Heron....adults were laying in all 3 nests.
Wood Duck...1 pair on the large west pond.
Lesser Scaup...73 on the large west pond.

The Snohomish Sewage Ponds are located at the southwestern edge of Snohomish along Riverview Rd just west of SR 9.

Good Birding,
Dave Beaudette
