Hi everyone,

This morning I watched the worst fight between two tree swallows and any
other birds besides two mallards and the result of a mallard fight. I can
only assume that Roger, my male t. swallow caught an imposter in the act of
sitting in front of the entrance of his nest box. They both would fight the
typical swallow and songbird fight, the wing and feet fight in the air as
they slowly rise. But, the male wouldn't give up. So when he landed on or in
front of the nest box, Roger would land on his back and let gravity pull
them apart. If they didn't pull apart after that, they would go to the
ground literally flapping on the ground for minutes( I was hoping a sharpy
would pick of the imposter, but decided it might be an inexperienced first
year male, so I said, "ah, let him be"). They landed in many places, some
were on my grass, the bark underneath the nest box, and in my neighbors
grass. Roger would be on his back, claws tightened and beak clamped on the
male's head or throat. The most interesting part was when they crashed in
some low plansts. They were in there for at least 2 + plus minutes, finally
(I would have let them fight but the worry of my neighbors cat won me out) I
went to see what they were up to because all I saw were wings flapping, and
there was I assume and hope Roger. He was sitting on the male's back firmly
gripping his back and nape. They saw me come a little closer, left and
repeated the whole fight event for another 30 seconds and left. All above me
and in front on me. The loser male hopefully not Roger left and Roger sang
on his nest box and then went and sat on my gutter preening his pretty
little plumage. WOW! What a day to start off 7 hours of school.
