This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Mar 30 (2001). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening. If you wish
to bypass this recording and simply leave a message for me, including the
date of your sighting and the DeLorme atlas page numbers and coordinates if
you have them, push the star button on your telephone now. Otherwise wait
for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good directions, your
fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

The EURASIAN WIGEON invasion reported last week continued this week as well.
Brian Miller saw 1 EURASIAN WIGEON in the ponds just north of Reardan,
Lincoln Co WA along WA 231, on Mar 23. WA DeLorme 88, C-1.5. Two EURASIAN
WIGEONS and 8 TUNDRA SWANS were at Turnbull NWR, Spokane Co, WA on Mar 24
according to Joe Lipar. Theresa Mathis reports a single EURASIAN WIGEON at
Turnbull on Mar 28 along Wheeler Road. Turnbull NWR is just south of Cheney.
Take the Cheney-Plaza Road south about 4 miles from Cheney to the refuge. WA
DeLorme 72, A-4.

In Grant Co WA, Randy Hill (hill at cbnn.net) reports 5 EURASIAN WIGEONS were
seen on Migraine Lake south of the Soda Lake Dam in the Columbia NWR. WA
DeLorme 53, A-7. That same day Bob Flores had 2 more EURASIAN WIGEONS just
south of there in Adams Co on Para Pond. On Mar 23 a single EURASIAN WIGEON
was seen on Para Pond by Craig and Judy Corder, along with 6 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS. Para Pond is NW of Othello along McManamon Road. WA DeLorme 53, B-7

Also along McManamon Road on Mar 28 was a single TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD in a
flock of 120 Brewer's Blackbirds just before you drop off the hill to Para
Pond according to Bob Flores. From the west part of Othello, take McManamon
Road north about 1 mile north. Keep going checking out any blackbird flocks,
especially as the road goes down a hill. Again, that's WA DeLorme 53, B-7.

TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were also seen in Grant Co WA by Matthew Moskwik
(mpmoskwik at hotmail.com) where they have been reported the past couple of
years. The birds were seen from the overlook along road 22 NE east of WA 28.
To get to the first from Soap Lake, take WA 28 east toward milepost 73. Just
east of milepost 73, turn north onto road 22 NE toward Marlin. Go 1.9 miles
to the large pullout on the north side of the road. WA DeLorme 69, A-8.

A mostly winter-plumaged HARRIS'S SPARROW spent Mar 24 through 29 at my
feeder about 5 miles south of Moscow, Latah Co ID.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding,
Kas
