This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Tuesday, May 1st, evening update.

Rare Bird Alert continues for BLACK-NECKED STILT, ROSS'S GOOSE, and NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD.

I would like to pass along a word of thanks to Calvin Gehlen for his very
capable handling of the bird alert duties during April.

Sightings for Tuesday, May 1st

The 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS and the ROSS'S GOOSE were seen for most of the day
in flooded field on the east side of the 4300 block of 152nd in Surrey. Also
in Surrey in the 17700 block of 8th Ave. were 20 WHIMBREL.

The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was reported from its Port Moody location of the
1100 block of Alderside. It was seen in the backyard 30 m east of the cement
walkway to the railway tracks.

The arrival BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was reported in Langley in a late report for
April 30. Another BULLOCK'S was reported today in Chilliwack along the
Rotary Trail along the Veeder River. Also seen at this location were 4 VAUX'
S SWIFTS and a TURKEY VULTURE.

Another TURKEY VULTURE and 2 AMERICAN BITTERN were reported from the Reifel
Refuge.

A pair of OSPREY is reported nesting on a dolphin east of Mac Barge in the
Burrard Inlet.

A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in a backyard in the 2900 block of W 11th in
Vancouver.

Monday, April 30th

Two BLACK-NECKED STILTS were discovered in a flooded field on the east
side of the 4300 block of 152nd Street. Also here were 2 YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS. Nearby, on 40th Avenue, just east of 152nd Street there was a
ROSS'S GOOSE.

A MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was at Blackie Spit, while in the Green Timbers area
of Surrey, were an OSPREY and 2 MERLINS.

At the Great Blue Heron Reserve in Chilliwack were TURKEY VULTURES and a
VAUX'S SWIFT.

There was a MacGillivray's WARBLER at Maplewood Conservation Area in North
Vancouver.

In a late report for April 28th, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and a DUSKY
FLYCATCHER were seen at Queen Elizabeth Park.

Sunday, April 29th

The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen again in Port Moody. At nearby Rocky Point
Park were 2 OSPREYS.

At Matsqui Trail in Abbotsford were 2 TURKEY VULTURES and a WARBLING VIREO.
Also in Abbotsford, on Clearbrook Road were 2 HOUSE WRENS.

At Lost Lagoon, near the stone bridge were a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and a
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER.
