Cascadia Hummingbird Report - 5/02/2001

Rufous Hummingbirds reached Cordova, AK by 4-28. There was also an
inland push to higher elevations (above 1000m) in the last week of
April. This inland move occurred along a front that stretched from
Bend, OR (lat 44?) to Prince George, BC (lat 54?) with a mode at 4/28
which just happens to be a Saturday and probably reflects some weekend
biasing.

I also have some late reports which I haven't had a chance to find
lat/longs for. I will add them to the maps at the next update

Hopeland, CA 03-15-2001
Miller Canyon, AZ 03-27-2001
Upper Table Rock, OR 04-14-2001

The folks at Miller Canyon also report that, while their first
detection was 03-15, banding efforts did not yield any Rufous
captures until 04-24.

Calliope Hummingbirds were reported at the following places (those
with lat/longs sent were sent to Wayne Weber who passed them on
to me, thank you very much):

Fern Ridge, OR 04-23
Sisters, OR 04-24
Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, BC 04-24 (49 14 N, 123 07W)
Iona Island, BC 04-24 (49 13 N, 123 12 W)
Prince George, BC 04-25 (53 55 N, 122 45 W)
Sunnyside, WA 04-26
Kelly Is, MT 04-26
Quesnel, BC 04-26 (53 0 N, 122 30 W)
Quesnel, BB 04-26
Bend, OR 04-27
Kelowna, BC 04-27 (49 53 N, 119 29 W)
Lummi Island, WA 04-29
Kinney, ID 04-29

It is very likely that I missed several of the Calliope dates, if I did,
sorry, but I'm so busy managing Rufous Hummingbirds that this is likely to
happen.

A BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD was reported from Cherry Springs, ID and a
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was reported from Johnny Creek, ID.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
