This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 2nd, evening update.

Rare Bird Alert continues for BLACK-NECKED STILT, ROSS'S GOOSE, and NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD.

A reminder to birders that Thursday night is VNHS Birder's Night. The
meeting starts at 7:30 PM at York House School Auditorium, 4176 Alexandra
Street, Vancouver. The school is located on the SW corner of Granville &
West King Edward. All are welcome. The evening schedule is members slide
night and Dutch Auction.

Sightings for Wednesday, May 2nd

The 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS were again seen for most of the day in a flooded
field on the East Side of the 4200 block of 152nd in Surrey. Also at this
location were 2 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS and a PEREGRINE. Nearby on 40th
west of 152nd was the ROSS'S GOOSE.

The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD continues at its Port Moody location of the 1100
block of Alderside 30 m east of the cement walkway to the railway tracks.

Eight WHIMBREL were seen at Blackie Spit.

At Campbell Valley Park were the arrival YELLOW WARBLER and a pair of
courting COOPER'S HAWKS.

Two COMMON TERNS were observed off Stanley Park's 2nd Beach.

Nine BLACK TURNSTONES were reported at Pt, Roberts near the Marina.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was observed coming to a feeder in the 900 block of
Spence Ave. The bird was first observed on the 1st.

Tuesday, May 1st

In late reports for Tuesday were 10 WHIMBREL at Blackie Spit and at Crescent
Beach 150 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

Reifel reported in with a singing HOUSE WREN on the east dike, the juvenile
NORTHERN GOSHAWK, and 350 SNOW GEESE.

The 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS were seen on the East Side of the 4200 block of
152nd in Surrey. The ROSS'S GOOSE was reported from 40th Ave. Also in Surrey
in the 17700 block of 8th Ave. were 20 WHIMBREL.

The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was reported from its Port Moody location of the
1100 block of Alderside. It was seen in the backyard 30 m east of the cement
walkway to the railway tracks.

The arrival BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was reported in Langley in a late report for
April 30. Another BULLOCK'S was reported in Chilliwack along the Rotary
Trail along the Veeder River. Also seen at this location were 4 VAUX'S
SWIFTS and a TURKEY VULTURE.

Another TURKEY VUKTURE and 2 AMERICAN BITTERN were reported from the Reifel
Refuge.

A pair of OSPREY is reported nesting on a dolphin east of Mac Barge in the
Burrard Inlet.

A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in a backyard in the 2900 block of W 11th in
Vancouver.

Monday, April 30th

A flock of 70 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were reported from Reifel.

This was the day the 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS were discovered in a flooded
field on the east side of the 4200 block of 152nd Street. Also here were 2
YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS. Nearby, on 40th Avenue, just east of 152nd Street was a ROSS'S
GOOSE.

A MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was at Blackie Spit, while in the Green Timbers area
of Surrey, were an OSPREY and 2 MERLINS.

At the Great Blue Heron Reserve in Chilliwack were TURKEY VULTURES and a
VAUX'S SWIFT.

There was a MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER at Maplewood Conservation Area in North
Vancouver.

In a late report for April 28th, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and a DUSKY
FLYCATCHER were seen at Queen Elizabeth Park.
