I've spent many years hiking around Mt. Rainier and there are many places
where you have to cup your hand around your lunch as you eat to keep the
Gray Jays from stealing it. If you just lift a sandwich to your mouth
they'll be on it in a second. I guess people have conditioned them to be
beggars. The pics of Steller's and Gray Jays on my website were taken while
we all shared a picnic table near longmire. I was also bitten by a golden
mantled ground squirrel on Mt Rainier who mistook my finger for food, I'd
been eating mixed nuts, so I'm sure my finger smelled irresistable.
Thankfully the little bugger didn't break the skin, he just wanted to cart
his morsel off to his(?) den.
