This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 2nd, evening update.

Rare Bird Alert continues for ROSS'S GOOSE.

The date of the Sunday May 6th VNHS Birding Field trip to Lost Lagoon has
been changed to Saturday May 5th because of the Vancouver Marathon being
held on the Sunday. The starting time and place remain the same except 1 day
sooner.

Sightings for Friday, May 4th

The ROSS'S GOOSE was again seen along 40th Ave. east of 152nd in Surrey. It
has been seen in the company of several SNOW GEESE and a CANADA GOOSE. Seen
in the same location was a SORA and the arrival BLUE-WINGED TEAL.

Seen at QE Park today along with the usual assortment of migrant warblers
were a DUSKY and HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHERS.

Thursday, May 3rd

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen in Hawthorne Park between 144th & 105 Ave.
in Surrey.

The arrival BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen for the second day at the
Chilliwack Heron Reserve. A YELLOW WARBLER was also observed. Still in the
Chilliwack area were 5 VAUX'S SWIFT over the Veeder Canal.

A TOWNEND'S SOLITAIRE was reported from 1961 Berkley in North Van which is
the same yard that played host to the BRAMBLING for the first part of this y
ear.

On the shores of the South Arm of the Fraser River between #2 Rd. & Gilbert
were 22 WHIMBREL.
Wednesday, May 2nd

The 2 BLACK-NECKED STILTS were last reported for most of the day in a
flooded field on the East Side of the 4200 block of 152nd in Surrey. Also at
this location were 2 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS and a PEREGRINE. Nearby on
40th east of 152nd was the ROSS'S GOOSE.

The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was reported from its Port Moody location of the
1100 block of Alderside. It was seen in the backyard 30 m east of the cement
walkway to the railway tracks.

Eight WHIMBREL were seen at Blackie Spit.

At Campbell Valley Park were the arrival YELLOW WARBLER and a pair of
courting COOPER'S HAWKS.

Two COMMON TERNS were observed off Stanley Park's 2nd Beach.

Nine BLACK TURNSTONES were reported at Pt, Roberts near the Marina.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was observed coming to a feeder in the 900 block of
Spence Ave. in Coquitlam. The bird was first observed on the 1st.

Tuesday, May 1st

Reifel reported in with a singing HOUSE WREN on the east dike, the juvenile
NORTHERN GOSHAWK, and 350 SNOW GEESE.

The arrival BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was reported in Langley in a late report for
April 30.

A TURKEY VULTURE and 2 AMERICAN BITTERN were reported from the Reifel
Refuge.

A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in a backyard in the 2900 block of W 11th in
Vancouver.
