I birded at the Ridgefield N.W.R. River "S" Unit on May 8th and found a
heavy movement of Western Tanagers and Yellow-rumped Warblers. A few
Orange-crowned and Wilson's Warblers were also present. 1 American
Bittern was heard and both Virginia Rail and Sora were wide spread and
vocal. A Peregrine Falcon was working the area around the new walking
trail and several Yellow-headed Blackbirds were setting up territory on
Rest Lake.
At Vancouver Lake off of the Flushing Channel a Red-necked Grebe in
breeding plumage was with seven Western Grebes.
