Yo Tweets,
Ocean Shores was good for a variety of shorebirds today. Saw a pair of
Snowy Plovers at the traditional breeding area just inside Damon Point State
Park. As I understand it, this is the northernmost regular breeding area for
the species. My questions are:
1. Does anyone know why the breeding area for Snowy Plovers no longer has
the signs demarcating a closed area to protect them from the constant stream
of people and dogs wandering in from the parking lot? Which regulatory
agency is responsible for this?
2. The pair was obviously dimorphic in size....Dennis Paulson's book on
NW Shorebirds notes that more research is needed on this topic. Any recent
information on dimorphism in Snowy Plovers out there?
