Tweets,

I got free for the day and visited Weir Prairie on Fort Lewis (off Rainier
Rd. se of Lacey), for starters. I got close to one calling male NORTHERN
BOBWHITE and saw several more under the burnt Scot's broom just north of the
patch of firs in the middle of the prairie. The camas was in full bloom.
Lots of CHIPPING SPARROWS, including one that sang with an unusual
six-parted trill, vaguely reminiscent of a Clay-colored Sparrow, but it was
a Chippie nevertheless. HOUSE WRENS at full throttle. A pair of WESTERN
BLUEBIRDS nesting. Most interesting was a singing male 100% HERMIT WARBLER
in the firs along Military Rd. on the bluff just east of the prairie. I
recorded it and played it back for a better look thinking it was a
Townsend's.
