My peace yesterday was interrupted by the noise of many crows that had
gathered outside my house. I went outside to see who they had found and after
awhile saw the tail of an adult Red-tailed Hawk sticking out of a large
evergreen. Upon further looking I realized that it was rummaging through a
crow's nest. The crows certainly knew what it was doing. I am surmising from
it all that the hawk was eating the eggs of the crow. It was in there a long
time and I have not heard the unmistakeable sound of parent crows feeding
their young so I assume that there are no fledglings around for the hawk. I
have never read any accounts of hawks eating eggs. But by the length of time
that the bird was in there I have to assume that it was gathering some kind
of food.
