Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday May 10. If you have anything to add call Harry

On May 9 a MANX SHEARWATER was reported flying past Boiler Bay. A RUFF in
full breeding plumage was seen May 5 at Tule Lake NWR in California. It
may have been the same bird that was seen May 1 on the Oregon side of
Lower Klamath NWR.

On May 7 a bright male SUMMER TANAGER was on Mt. Tabor in southeast
Portland. It could not be relocated.

A FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATER and a LAYSAN'S ALBATROSS were seen on the May 5
offshore boat trip out of Newport. A Possible LITTLE CURLEW was seen and
heard flying over the ocean beach at Leadbetter Point May 7.

Very heavy migrations were reported during the week especially shorebirds
along the coast with RED-NECKED PHALAROPES the most spectacular. SAVANNAH
SPARROWS were also conspicuous, but everything is on the move.

A LARK SPARROW was at Cape Blanco May 9. Two BANK SWALLOWS were over
Millicoma Marsh at Coos Bay May 5. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was on the
North Spit of Coos Bay May 4, and a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at Bandon
Marsh May 9. A WHITE-THROATED SWIFT was over Cape Meares May 5. A WILLET
was at the Necanicum River mouth in Gearhart May 3.

On May 8 a breeding plumaged RED-NECKED GREBE was on Vancouver Lake. A
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was at Powell Butte Park in Gresham May 6. LAZULI
BUNTINGS are now back on territory there.

Four BLACK-NECKED STILTS were at Ankeny NWR May 9. Two were still at Fern
Ridge Reservoir May 7. Six were at the Prineville Sewage Ponds May 5.

On May 9 a probable SWAINSON'S HAWK was at Mt. Pisgah near Eugene. A
COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD is now coming to a Eugene feeder.

On May 7 a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was at the Redmond Golf Course.
