Our trip lasted from April 25 through May 7; we started in Corpus
Christi, then joined a tour group on April 27 in San Antonio that took
us via Ft Clark Springs (4/27) to Big Bend Nat'l Park (4/28-5/1), Davis
Mts State Park (5/2) then back east to the Hill Country (5/3-5/5). We
added two days in the San Antonio area before returning to Seattle.

Highlights: a seven-tern day near Corpus Christi; Lucifer Hummingbird,
Colima Warbler, and Elf Owl in Big Bend NP; Montezuma Quail, Tropical
Parula and an incredible Blackpoll Warbler at Davis Mts SP;
Golden-cheeked Warbler, Black-capped Vireo, and a surprising Ringed
Kingfisher in the Hill Country. Totals for our two-week trip: 260
species with 45 lifers. We find the diversity of birds in Texas almost
overwhelming: one two-week trip plus three long weekends in the lower
Rio Grande Valley have produced more species for us than we've seen in
many years of birding in Washington state. (We also discovered that
Texas produces wine, which we think is unlikely to overtake Washington
in either quantity or quality anytime soon.)
