In Schmitz Park (in the Alki area of West Seattle) this weekend,
some of the highlights I heard and/or saw included OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER
(at least two), PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER (several), WILSON'S WARBLER (many),
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER (at least one), WESTERN TANAGER (many),
SWAINSON'S THRUSH (heard one), BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK (heard at least one),
and a possible HUTTON'S VIREO (anything else around here have a repetitive,
upslurred call like a Hutton's?). There were more warbler songs that I
couldn't identify positively enough to report (Yellow? Yellow-rumped?) --
need to get out my tapes! The TANAGERS were everywhere (starting with the
parking lot), feeding in big-leaf maples. Also singing were BROWN CREEPERS,
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, WINTER WRENS, BEWICK'S WRENS, SONG SPARROWS,
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES, and GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLETS.
