If she's reasonably responsible, consider the Nikon Travelite III (various
magnifications (8,9,10,12) x 25) . . . lower mag is probably good for her
unless she has really steady hands and a good "bino flick". I use the 12x25
and find they work just fine for me . . . but I don't bird in low light
conditions much. But they're only about $100, the lenses are small and
recessed, and the binos are easy for little hands to manipulate and little
arms to carry. My three-year old likes to look through them . . . in
reverse most of the time though . . . ;).
