Folks,

Here are some preliminary results of our Klickitat County Spring North
American Migration Count (5/12/01):

Upland Sandpiper...seen on the north side of the Little Klickitat River in
Goldendale, approximately 150 meters west of the Pipeline Road bridge by
Daniel Lichtenwald

Black-throated Sparrow....Conboy National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters by
John Davis and Jeff Dillon

Tricolored Blackbird....southwest corner of intersection of Sand Ridge and
Hale Roads by Stuart Johnston

White-throated Swallows....Columbia River cliffs by Robin Dobson

All birds above were observed for at least 10 minutes.

Other species of interest

Acorn Woodpeckers 3
Sandhill Crane 37 ( total from 2 locations)

relatively large numbers of Lazuli Buntings, Western Tanagers, Bullock's
Orioles and Western Kingbirds

Total species observed .... approximately 155 ( not all results are in
from all sectors). Another great day of Klickitat Count birding.

Species expected but missed:

Coopers Hawk
Peregrine Falcon (seen count week)
Ruffed Grouse
Blue Grouse
Wild Turkey ( lots of Wild Turkey hunters)
Barn Owl
Red-naped Sapsucker
Loggerhead Shrike

Think about sharing in our next birding adventure, the Fall NAMC, September
15th. As you can see, we can always use more help. Ideally we would have 40
to 50 observers hitting it hard from dawn to noon. If you can't make it to
Klickitat County, organize an NAMC in your county if it doesn't already
have one.

Thanks to all who participated. Without you and your cooperative attitude (
a willingness to focus on specific sectors and habitats, rather than
longer, individual big day lists), these sorts of results would not be
possible.

Final results will be posted on the Birding Klickitat County website within
the next 2 or 3 weeks.
