Columbia Estuary Report - 5/16/2001

Todd Thornton saw 11 FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS and 2
LEACH'S STORM-PETRELS Tuesday evening at SJCR after a day of
unusually stormy weather. He also saw many BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKES and 2 FRANKLIN'S GULLS. Steve Warner had
20+ COMMON TERNS at the Seaside Cove.

I went out to the SJCR this morning and found 1 FORK-TAILED
STORM-PETREL and a dead SOOTY SHEARWATER. I also saw at least
4 PARASITIC JAEGERS all after the same CASPIAN TERN (there
may actually have been as many as 6). BROWN PELICANS were
seen at Haystack Rock and SJCR on Saturday.

BULLOCK'S ORIOLES were at parking lot D of Ft Stevens
Saturday and the Neawanna wetland Sunday. A WESTERN
KINGBIRD was on Wireless Rd. A very early WILLOW FLYCATCHER
was mist-netted Sunday and very noisy WESTERN WOOD PEWEE
was seen at the Neawanna.

Two FRANKLIN'S GULLS, MARBLED GODWITS, 100's of WHIMBREL
and 1000's of WESTERN SANDPIPER and DUNLIN were on Youngs
Bay Saturday and Sunday.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
