This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, May 18 (2001). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening. If you wish
to bypass this recording and simply leave a message for me, including the
date of your sighting and the DeLorme atlas page numbers and coordinates if
you have them, push the star button on your telephone now. Otherwise wait
for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good directions, your
fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

A BLACK TURNSTONE was found 15 May, and that only, at the Yakima River Delta
in Richland, Benton Co WA. The bird was seen by several individuals and
reported by Bill and Nancy LaFramboise. WA DeLorme 39, BC-6.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was seen in Hooper, Adams Co WA on 14 May by Randy
Hill. The bird was behind the Hooper Store. The store is easy to find when
crossing the bridge over the Palouse River from the south side of Hooper.
Look straight ahead to the store - it's along Old Highway 26. It was not
seen on 17 May by Bob Flores. WA DeLorme 55, B-7.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was in Adams Co WA on 16 May according to Craig
Corder. The bird was originally at the Hatton Coulee Rest Area at the jct of
US 395 and WA 26. It was using an area at the north end where Russian-olives
provide cover. Later that day it was across US 395 in a sagebrush coulee
according to Bob Flores. To get there from the gas station on the NW corner
of the intersection of US 395 & WA 26, get on the small road to the right of
the gas station that runs alongside US 395. Follow it to the yellow 35 mph
sign on corner and a guzzler (white) on the right side of the road. WA
DeLorme 54, B-2.

A single TRUMPETER SWAN was at Lane Marsh between Rose Lake and St Maries
Kootenai Co ID on 16 May according to Stephen Lindsay (slindsay at dmi.net).
Lane Marsh is along ID 3 near milepost 111. ID DeLorme 60, B-3.

A GREAT EGRET is persisting in the Lewiston ID / Clarkston WA valley. The
bird was seen several times this past week by Keith Carlson
(KEC201814 at aol.com), who saw it on the Snake River south of Clarkston on 15
May, and later in the week at Mann Lake, 3 miles east of Lewiston.

I had several reports of nice flocks of WHITE-FACED IBIS this past week.
Almost all were from the Othello, Adams Co WA area.

A single LARK SPARROW was on the south side of Moscow Mt northeast of
Moscow, Latah Co ID on 13 May according to Dave Holick.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
