My son and I did our irregular census of the Stanwood Sewer Ponds this
morning.

Highlights included:

REDHEAD: one male

WILSON'S PHALAROPE: 6

YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD: 1 male flying with 5 or 6 Red-wings. Seen for
only a few seconds, but obvious.

BULLOCK'S ORIOLE: one male at the SE corner.

WESTERN TANAGER: A virtual fallout, with about 2 dozen, mostly in the
trees at the NE corner, but also at the SE corner. There was an amazing
hatch of non-stinging mosquito size insects (midges?), and it was amusing
watching the tanagers feasting on them. They were so thick that the
tanagers were picking them out of the air without the need for flying,
although they were awkwardly flopping from perch to perch in the trees.

RED-TAILED HAWK: Nest along the river to the East, with adult and at least
one young standing on the edge of the nest.
