The fill is properly called the Union Bay Natural Area and an information
page is at http://depts.washington.edu/ubna/ It operated as a landfill from
1926 to 1966. I remember going to UW football games with my Father in the
'60's and looking at that eyesore with my binoculars, in the 80's and 90's I
could sit and watch waterfowl from the same general seats. It's a remarkable
restoration effort.
