Hello Tweeters:

I am new to this list and this is my first post. I am also new to birding
(about 6 months) and am havinga wonderful time. A week and a half ago I saw
a Western Tanager in the birch tree in front of my house. I had never seen
such a bird but it was easy to identify in my field guide ... red head,
black back and yellow front. That was a Western Tanager, right? I see many
delighted reports of sightings of this bird and so realize how fortunate I
was. So thought I would report mine.

Also, this past weekend I was visiting in Centralia and wandered around a
park near a river with my binoculars. I saw what I think was a Brown
Creeper walking up a tree trunk. So delightful to see. It was a very small
bird, pale chest, mottled brownish black and a forked tail. From the
behavioral description in my field guides I should have seen a more
"feathery" tail and I might have missed this because of my ameteur
observation skills. Could I have been right in my identification?

I hope "simple questions" from beginners is OK here.
