This evening I have been watching 3 small terns in front of my home here on
the Columbia River at Camas. I think they are FORSTER'S TERNS because their
bills are a gold color in the evening light, they have a light gray mantle,
white primaries with maybe a ribbon of dark gray around the tips, white
rump, orange legs not short enough for Arctic Tern, and the call was one
nasal syllable. This is the first time I have seen small terns here in the
11 years we have lived on the River--very exciting.
