Birders: I have noted the recent thread on the subject field guides.
There is an excellent review and critique of Sibley and Kaufman in the
Spring 2001 issue of LIVING BIRD published quarterly by the Cornell
Laboratory of Ornithology complete with copies of selected pages from
each field guide. I highly recommend supporting the excellent work done
by Cornell by becoming a member for $35/yr which not only includes the
excellent, well illustrated glossy journal but the BIRDSCOPE newsletter
which provides a wealth of research data from the Backyard Bird Count,
the FeederWatch program, as well as the university's many research
projects. Hans Krauss
