Swallows do not use radar to find food. It's all about the eyes. But what
you mentioned about the v-g's being out early in the morning is true, I see
it every morning. They are more than likely just flying around having a good
time and trying to find girls. I just say they don't use radar basted on my
observation, I have never read it anywhere but if you think about it, when
any swallow species has fledgling babies or babies with feathers, they are
out pretty late at night. I have seen barn swallows, tree, and violet-green
swallows out right before the actuall "blackness" of dark sets in, and they
just fly around quietly snapping at bugs. The weird thing is they are quite
in the late night to avoid the attention from awesome accipiters but loud
and cheery in the early morning. ? HHMM?
