Subject: A Bird question

This is a bird question because I'm asking it...

Twice recently I've observed two, possibly three, odd turtles sunning on
the logs in the bay east of Montlake Fill (where runners, bikers and dogs
now have free reign). They appear to be soft-shelled turtles but no such
critters are legally resident here. Am I looking at Western Pond Turtles
with very pointy heads or escapee soft-shells?

The world wonders...
