Tweets,
We were looking forward to a perennial favorite early season hike, Iron
Bear Peak, when it appeared in last Thursday's P-I as the hike of the week.
Despite our worries, the trail was not overrun with hikers on Sunday the
27th. It was overrun with butterflies, flowers and singing birds, a great
hike. See the P-I website for directions. Highlights were a nesting
Calliope Hummingbird and a fly-by Golden Eagle at the summit. Also, lots of
invisible warblers to taunt you for not mastering their songs. The species
list:
Blue Grouse
Red-tailed Hawk
Golden Eagle
Calliope Hummingbird
Williamson's Sapsucker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Hammond's Flycatcher
Warbling Vireo
Cassin's Vireo
Common Raven
Clark's Nutcracker
Steller's Jay
American Robin
Hermit Thrush
Mountain Bluebird
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Townsend's Warbler
MacGillivray's Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Chipping Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Western Tanager
Cassin's Finch
Pine Siskin
