Greetings, Tweeters.

At 12:40 this afternoon, I looked out of my home office windows to see about
25 rhinoceros auklets feeding in the kelp bed in front of our house east of
Port Angeles. I say about 25 because they were diving repeatedly, with very
little surface time. They were accompanied by a noisy flock of 65 gulls,
mostly Western x Glaucous-winged hybrids, best I could tell. The rhinos
still had their "horns."

Yesterday, out the same windows, I saw 2 male western tanagers resting in a
western white pine during a squall. An hour later the sun was shining and
the wind was calm, and I saw a pair of cedar waxwings and a pair of American
goldfinches gathering last year's fireweed fluff on the south side of the
house. It sure is hard to get any work done these days!
