Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday May 31. If you have anything to add call Harry

During the Memorial Day Week-end birders at Malheur NWR found a MOURNING
WARBLER and a TENNESSEE WARBLER at Malheur Headquarters, and LEAST
BITTERN nearby. Two displaying COMMON MOORHENS were at a marsh near
Krumbo Reservoir and a male SUMMER TANAGER was at nearby Benson Pond. A
KITTIWAKE was at Frenchglen and an INDIDGO BUNTING was at Cottonwood
Creek south of Fields. A CATTLE EGRET was along Highway 20 east of Burns
May 28.

A PHAINOPEPLA was verified in Bend during the week but was gone by
Thursday. A MANX SHEARWATER was off Ecola State park in Cannon Beach May
26. A male BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a female COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD were at
Lincoln City May 29. A female BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was in Klamath
Falls May 27.

BLACK TERNS, WILSON'S PHALAROPES, BLACK-NECKED STILTS, and WHITE-FACED
IBIS are still being reported west of the Cascades. A TRICOLORED
BLACKBIRD was on the North Spit of Coos Bay May 24. Two AVOCETS were
there the next day.

A female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at Yaquina Bay May 24. A LEACH'S
STORM-PETREL and 15 RED PHALAROPES were off Boiler Bay May 27. A
BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was on Cascade Head May 28.

Four BLACK-NECKED STILTS and 12 GREAT EGRETS were at Ridgefield NWR May
27. WILSON'S PHALAROPES and YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS are now being seen
from the Reeder Road Viewing Platform on Sauvie Island. On May 28 a male
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK visited a feeder along Newberry Road in the West
Hills near Sauvie Island.

Three FORSTER'S TERNS were on the Columbia River at Camas May 28. Two
female RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were off Airport Way east of the Portland
Airport May 26. Two FORSTER'S TERNS were at the Fernhill Wetlands May 26.
Two BLACK TERNS continue to be seen at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro. Two
were copulating at the Tualatin NWR near Sherwood May 26.

A small breeding colony of BANK SWALLOWS was found during the week along
the Clackamas River near Barton. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at Olollie
Meadows in the upper Clackmas drainage May 27.

Two FORSTER'S TERNS were at Baskett Slough NWR and three were at Ankeny
NWR May 27. A SANDHILL CRANE was at Finley NWR May 27. An AVOCET was at
Fern Ridge Reservoir May 29.

REDSTARTS are now back along Indian Ford Creek at Squawback Road
crossing. A PLUMBEOUS VIREO was there during the week. A WHITE-TAILED
KITE, a RED KNOT, and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were at Summer Lake and four
CATTLE EGRETS were near Lakeview over the week-end. Recently BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHERS were near Summer Lake and at Picture Rock Pass near Silver
Lake.
