On a trip to La Conner today we saw about 2000+ Snow Geese. As we were trying
to figure out where we could stop to look at them we came across the new (or
at least new looking) Skagit Wildlife Area. It has a road from the main road
that leads into a parking area for about 25 cars. I included some pictures
taken with my digital camera today from the road leading into the parking
area. You can see it at http://birdcentral.net/sgeese2.htm
Now I will admit I haven't been out much lately so maybe this was there last
year, but it did look pretty new. Going north on Highway 5, take the La
Conner turn-off and the viewing area is about 5 miles along Fir Island Road
on the left.
It was great to see the Geese. I was surprised to see the number of young
birds in the flock. Did not see any swans around at all.
