Tweeters, Michael, Andrea,
As to Michael's list of what ought to be:
1 and 2. There ARE clear and graphic sign posts designating where
hunting IS and IS NOT allowed on Spencer Is. Including ones you don't
have to know how to read to understand. (more signs are not the answer,
nor would they stop these guys)
3. If you have one available, call 911 on your cell phone. The local
authorities are very interested in responding to calls about illegal
firearm use. They will respond.
4. If anyone is willing to foot the bill, the authorities would love to
have more weekday patrols.
5. When caught, these guys are NOT let off lightly.

Please do not refer to these idiots as Hunters. These illegal
"hunters" are not really hunters at all, they are losers who buy
licenses to shoot things, not hunt. They just love to go shoot things,
ANYthing. That is why they are there during the middle of the week. They
know the rangers aren't patrolling as often. So they sneak down into the
no hunting areas, not because the hunting is any better, no, they do it
because the only attention they ever received from their mommy and
daddy was negative attention, so they STILL need to seek that negative
attention anyway they can. Simple "white trash" physiology 101.
The authorities know about them and ARE actively trying to catch them.
They simply can't be there all the time. You can help by calling the
police when you see them and/or writing down their car licenses. ( of
course you may have to testify at their trial, if you want that
conviction).
Spencer Is. is a great place to bird. And even during hunting season it
is usually very peaceful and quiet. Most of the true hunters that use
the island respect the hunting restrictions and are great stewards of
the land.
