Three PACIFIC LOONS were seen 28 Oct in the Wenatchee, Chelan Co, WA area by
Dave Beaudette. One was seen on the Columbia River from Wenatchee Confluence
State Park along with a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER on 29 Oct. Two more Pacifics
were seen on the Columbia River just up from Rocky Reach Dam, viewed from
Lincoln Rock State Park which is about 8 miles north of Wenatchee along US
97 on the 28th. The park is closed but you can park outside the gate and
walk in. A spotting scope would be very helpful. Also along the Columbia
River shoreline at Wenatchee Confluence State Park is a single GREAT EGRET.
Dave also reports a SWAMP SPARROW here as well, lurking around a pond in the
Horan Natural Area. The sparrow was first seen 25 Oct. To get to the state
park and the sparrow in particular: From US 2 at Wenatchee, eastbound or
westbound, follow signs to the state park. Park in the first parking lot
which will be on the right. Walk the asphalt trail south, go over the bridge
over the Wenatchee River to the entrance to the Horan Natural Area. Continue
straight ahead on the trail to the restroom and continue straight ahead to
the pond on your left. WA DeLorme 67, A-6.

I have a third-hand report of a juv SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER at the south end
of Soap Lake near the town of Soap Lake, Grant Co WA, north-northeast of
Moses Lake. Connie Sidles reports that Dave Allen saw the bird on 25 Oct.
Dave said the bird was to be seen at the first gravel turnoff at the south
end of the lake, near some children's swings. WA DeLorme 68-69, A, right on
the crease.

At Sprague Lake, Adams Co WA on 26 and 28 Oct were 2 DUNLIN, 1 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, 50+ BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and a single AMERICAN TREE SPARROW according
to Craig & Judy Corder. Sprague Lake straddles the Lincoln and Adams county
line just south of I-90. WA DeLorme 71, BC-8.

About 50 DUNLIN were on Scooteney Reservoir in northern Franklin Co, WA on
26 Oct according to Randy Hill. The reservoir is about 10 miles southeast of
Othello, Adams Co WA just west of WA 17. WA DeLorme 53, BC-8.

The Palouse HARRIS'S HAWK was reported 28 Oct along the Moscow-Pullman
Highway by Kelly Cassidy.

At Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID on 29 Oct were 3 TUNDRA
SWANS, a single SNOW GOOSE, and 3 DUNLIN plus some other shorebirds
according to Keith Carlson. Jane Westervelt reports seeing a SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER in a flock of 20 or so Long-billeds on 30 Oct. Mann Lake is at the
end of Powers Avenue, about 3 miles east of Lewiston Orchards. ID DeLorme
54, A-1.

Denny Granstrand forwarded a message about a BLUE JAY in Yakima Co WA. From
Sunnyside go south (toward Grandview) on US 12 and turn east (left) on
Alexander Road. Go 1.6 miles, cross Puterbaugh Road and proceed to first
house on right. Go up drive between the grapes to red barn and wood shed
(about 50 ft). The jay hangs around in the tree and is feeding on acorns in
the old flatbed truck. The residence belongs to George Graf who is usually
home after 2:00 pm. George owns a large German Shepherd so you should call
ahead at 509.882.2616. WA DeLorme 38, BC-1. A second BLUE JAY, perhaps the
same bird, was reported by Gaylord Mink in Prosser, Benton Co, WA. WA
DeLorme 38, C-2. These 2 locales are about 7 miles apart.

Four TRUMPETER SWANS were on Para Ponds northwest of Othello, Adams Co, WA
on 31 Oct according to Bob Flores. Bob said they were spooky and left the
pond as soon as he stopped, moving to the lake to the north. Bob checked
again today, 2 Nov and couldn't locate the birds, although 7 TUNDRA SWANS
were on the lake to the north of Para Pond. Para Pond is about two miles NW
of Othello along McManoman Road. WA DeLorme 53, B-7.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was near Deer Park, Spokane Co WA, for about 2 weeks but
hasn't been seen this week. Cindy McCormack reports the bird was at the
feeder of Mary Jokela.

A "HARLAN'S" RED-TAILED HAWK, presumably the same bird since 1994, was
sitting on it's favorite perch, a street light, along WA 397 in east
Kennewick, Benton Co, WA on 31 Oct according to Dennis Rockwell.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
