Subject: Occurence of Baird's at Mt Ranier?

Larry and Tweeters;

I believe the sighting of the Baird's Sandpiper at Mt Rainier was mine. I
had supplied Diann with information about a sighting I had of 3 Baird's
Sandpipers feeding on the snow fields below Camp Muir between the 8,000 -
9,000 foot level. The sighting was back on August 12, 1994.

I too was surprised to see "shorebirds" way up there, but I did find
reference in Dennis Paulson's book, Shorebirds of the Pacific Northwest,
that mentions that this species occasionally turns up in the mountains.

Hope that answers your question.
Good Birding
