Hi, Tweets
Here is the last of the migration reports for 2001. If anyone sees or hears
of any wintering turkey vultures, please let me know - I have a file on
those, too.
Turkey vultures reported from Washington and British Columbia for October 2001:
01 -- 22 in the air near Joyce
02 -- 05+ at Yelm; 3 at the River-S Unit, Ridgefield NWR; 2 just west of
Cle Elum
03 -- 11 kettling over the county hospital on Whidbey Island; 1 east of
Mount Vernon; 4 riding a thermal and heading southeast from Mount Vernon;
50+ circling over the Salt Creek RA.
06 -- 3 north of Ocean Shores; 1 soaring over Gower Point, Gibsons, B.C.; 8
over Killdeer Field in Mountlake Terrace
09 -- 1 adult soaring over the north tip of Guemes Island
D. Ross Fisher at the Campbell River Airport on Vancouver Island's Georgia
Strait coastline always sends me his "last of the season" vulture report -
this year the last turkey vulture seen at the airport was early, 27
September. He mentions that the main migration day there was 19 September.
Thanks, everyone, for contributing your sightings throughout the turkey
vulture 'season' in the Pacific Northwest. It's been fun to read them all
and I am getting a good solid base for turkey vulture demographics in our area.
Have a great winter!!
Cheers, Diann
