Subject: RBA for November 05/01


This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Monday, November 5, evening update.

The featured birds are Hudsonian Godwit, Lapland Longspur and Townsend's
Solitaire, and out of town Cattle Egret.

Sightings for Monday, November 5:

The Hudsonian Godwit continued at 104th Street in Boundary Bay, and in the
corn stubble field about ? kilometer east of 104th, there were an incredible
54 Lapland Longspurs and 3 Snow Buntings.

A Townsend's Solitaire was seen for the 3rd day at the 1,000 block of
Alderside in Port Moody. Also in the area was a Hutton's Vireo at the east
end of Old Orchard Park.

3 Cattle Egrets were seen in the Squamish area at the Furry Creek Golf
Course. Another Cattle Egret was seen in Matsqui at the south end of the
Mission Rail Bridge in a field on the left side of the tracks.

Sunday, November 4:

A first year Glaucous Gull was seen on log pillings on the river behind Iona
Island. Also at Iona, a Parasitic Jaeger was seen off the south jetty along
with about 1,000 Bonaparte's Gulls.

Fergusan Point in Stanley Park had 2 Black Oystercatchers and 6 Black
Turnstones.

A Rough-legged Hawk was at 168th Street and 40th Avenue in Surrey.

Saturday, November 3:

At Reifel, 2 Barn Swallows were on a wire along the approach road before the
gate.

The juvenile Hudsonian Godwit continued to be seen at 104th Street on
Boundary Bay, along with the juvenile Pacific Golden Plover, a Snow Bunting
and 2 Peregrine Falcons.

The Coalport jetty had 2 Red Knots, and the Tsawwassen jetty had a Willet
and
a Black Duck at their ususal locations. 6 Brandt's Cormorants were on a rock
at the tip of the jetty.

A Townsend's Solitaire was seen in a yard in the 1000 block of Alderside
Road
in Port Moody.
