Glorious days like today are not to be missed. The cottonwoods and birches
were a dozen shades of green, yellow, and orange, all against a blue, blue sky.
The sun quickly burned off all the fog. The frosty spider webs and lines
quickly thawed. It was windless and perfect - it even got warm.

Of course, perfect weather does not always mean abundant birds. Today was
actually spotty for birds, with long droughts with nothing much. But there
were moments of excitement, a pretty good bird list, and a few highlights. Not
that anyone cared anyway. The seven of us were enjoying an excuse to be
outdoors!

Highlights:

Green Heron Nearly invisible in plain site at weir
Common Snipe Rowing Club pond
Hairy Woodpecker Nice male at E. end of boardwalk
Brown Creeper Forest south of dog area
Yellow-rumped Warbler Rowing Club
Orange-crowned Warbler With creeper
Black-throated Gray Warbler Near Hairy

A three warbler day in November!

We also had an 8 sparrow day, with SONG, FOX, WHITE-CROWNED, GOLDEN-CROWNED,
LINCOLN'S, and SAVANNAH sparrows, DARK-EYED JUNCO, and SPOTTED TOWHEE. (Plus
House Sparrow, but they don't count). The Savannahs (3-4) were at the compost
piles, and were our first Savannahs in about a month.

There were more than 80 BUFFLEHEAD all told, mostly at the lake. There weren't
many other ducks, though there were MALLARD, a couple of GADWALL, a female
RING-NECKED DUCK, a male AMERICAN WIGEON (at the Rowing Club), and a trio of
beautiful HOODED MERGANSER.

Notably large numbers of RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET were mixed with good numbers of
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, quite a few BEWICK'S WREN, BUSHTITS, sparrows, and PINE
SISKIN. We even had a couple of PURPLE FINCH.

All told, 52 species.
