Hi, Tweets

Ann van der Geld and I took advantage of a beautiful day's weather and
headed east of the mountains. Mainly just drove the northern backroads from
Ellensburg and headed up Colockum Pass to the top and along under the power
lines for a couple miles. The absence of small birds of any kind was
notable; no grey-crowned rosy finches, woodpeckers, or even chickadees!
Ravens were noteworthy, and saw one Steller's jay, some robins, and a
redtail on top of the pass. Also saw 12 mule deer.

Driving the farm roads we had 59 redtails, 4 northern harriers, 10
roughlegs, 2 adult bald eagles, 1 American kestrel, and the Hungry Junction
great horned owl. Also, a California quail, 6 Canada geese, and a few
miscellaneous ducks. It was a quick trip so most of our birding was done
from the truck.

Cheers, Diann
